Dyslexia is is a learning disability that can impare one's ability to read. This imparement is brain-based, and most cases share several common characteristics. There is nothing to be ashamed of, help is possible.
Diagnostic Criteria:
The Diagnostic and Statistical Manuel Fourth Edition (DSM-IV)
According to the DSM-IV there are a couple criteria that a person who is being tested for
dyslexia would have to meet under certain circumstances. Some of which would
include: their reading apprehension would be substantially lower than should be
at that expected age, intelligence, and their education. Their problems reading,
writing, and comprehending would start to affect their daily life and
activities. Their might or might not be another disorder that goes hand in hand
with dyslexia like developmental writing and arithmetic
disorders.
